I have this note hanging on the refrigerator that I wrote in 1998. It reminds me each time I see it daily. It was not something coming from inspirational books but merely from my heart during the mediation hour.
Live your life like a mighty oak tree. Bold. Solitude. Brave. Generously. Peace. Love. Every branch bears good fruit. Your soul shall branch good deeds. Do not return to God empty.
Early this morning, as usual, I sat on the patio, drinking coffee and reading the daily devotion planner after my morning run. It’s one of my favorite times of the day to be with nature to smell the sweetness of the morning dew on the grass like the fragrance from Heaven. The patio faces west while the sun rises behind the house. I like the coolness crisp of the air. But I'll be in my home study during the rainy days or the winter, which is like a man cave.
My reading today was Psalms 1-2. This particular verse stood out to me with chills. It’s more of an acknowledgment that it is now time. The text of Psalms 1:3 says, “He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither, and whatever he does shall prosper.”
The note I wrote and the Psalms are parallel. The Holy Spirit has a way of reaching out to my heart that tugged me to write down those words 22 years ago—not knowing what the future brings but to God. Those were His words I listened to. It’s not the words you can hear them. I feel them and then interpret them when I let the Holy Spirit work through me on what to write.
Throughout your life, you need to be a tree. A tree takes years to become mature before it can bear fruits. The river of water is the spiritual living waters that nurture your spiritual growth by learning wisdom through the years. In due time, you will be able to apply the knowledge you gained to those who need it (bring forth its fruit). Nothing can alter my spiritual growth (leaf shall not wither), and it will continue to grow deeper (shall prosper).
